New Manchester High School senior Zaki Roshell says being a teen can be like riding a rollercoaster. It’s challenging to enjoy your high school years without a guide. But she’s written a book she hopes will help young people navigate the most challenging part.
Roshell’s “Becoming a CEO of Self-Confidence” is designed to be a guide to self-improvement. As the CEO and founder of Zaki Blaque and Zaki’s Tutu Tops, she is on a mission to encourage young women to embrace their unique style and dare to make a statement.
Roshell, a certified speaker and leader, says young people must take responsibility and do the work daily. “Self-confidence is a muscle,” she says. “You must exercise it to build it and make it strong.”
Zaki is a natural, confident leader. As president of the New Manchester High School National Honor Society and FBLA chapter, she advanced to the State level in the Introduction to Business Presentation competition and was named an FBLA Regional Officer.
She also serves her community throughout the school year as a member of the 2021- 2022 Youth Leadership Douglas and the Young Black Leadership Alliance.
Besides reading her book, she encourages students to use a journal and a planner. “I use my planner to outline the actions I want to take to move closer to my goals,” Roshell says. “It helps me become a better planner and goal setter and allows me to take control of my emotions. It builds stronger self-confidence every day.”
