DCSS Mask Requirements

Updated DCSS Mask Protocol
Posted on 01/07/2022

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic our focus has been to prioritize the safety of students and staff, while also committing to in person learning. We have also maintained our partnership with the Cobb and Douglas Public Health (CDPH). This partnership has led to models and plans that are successful at containing and slowing the spread of the virus. As we receive new guidance, we review the new measures, we put them into operation and keep you apprised of applicable changes.

The current COVID-19 conditions remain very fluid amidst the highly contagious Omicron variant and within our school system we see a significant increase in positive cases and those who are direct contacts. The current level of community spread combined with the rise in cases that we see within our school system can not be ignored.

Starting on Monday, January 10, 2022, we have decided to implement a district wide face covering requirement, in all buildings and on buses. CDPH suggests that we implement this mask requirement for two weeks.  Again, our goal and commitment is to keep student and staff safety a priority, while we continue with in-person learning.

We understand the level of frustration felt by many and ask everyone to stay focused on learning, and to stay vigilant about hand washing, wearing face coverings and continuing social distancing. We had no way of knowing without assumption that the increase in community spread would impact Douglas County, to this extreme, as we returned this week with a plan for monitoring cases by school site.

A decline in this community spread is hopeful; therefore, we have to join other city, county, and health department partners to do our part. Please stay tuned for more updates as district officials continue to work in collaboration with our board of education and county public health officials.

Together, we shape the future!
