Chapel Hill Score Tops Average for State and Nation

The Douglas County School System saw a slight increase in its SAT mean score for 2018. The score for the district is 1005, up two points from 2017. Chapel Hill High School’s score of 1056 is highest in the county and above the mean score for the state and nation. All high schools show an increase in the number of students taking the SAT.

Alexander High School and Chapel Hill saw increases, while Douglas County, Lithia Springs, and New Manchester High Schools saw decreases from 2017.

“As a district, we are moving in the right direction,” said Chief Academic Officer Pam Nail. “However, our goal is for all of our high schools to better prepare students to score higher on college admissions tests. With the Freshman Seminar class we now have in place and the classes to prepare students for the SAT and ACT, we expect to see progress over the next few years.”

Overall, Georgia public school students improved their performance on the SAT in 2018 and outperformed their counterparts in the nation’s public schools, recording a mean score of 1054 compared to the national mean of 1049. Sixty-six percent of Georgia’s public school Class of 2018 took the SAT during high school, compared to 61% of the Class of 2017.

The SAT is a globally recognized college admissions test designed to assess academic readiness for college through student reasoning based on knowledge and skills.
