The Douglas County School System saw a slight increase in its SAT mean score for 2020. The score for the district is 1002, up three points from 2019. Alexander High School’s score of 1035 is highest in the county, with Chapel Hill High School close behind at 1032. Both schools scored higher than the national average. The scores reflect 2020 high school graduates who took the SAT during high school. There were 1,010 test takers in Douglas County.
“As a district, we are moving in the right direction,” said Assistant Superintendent of Student Achievement Melanie Manley. “We must continue to have high expectations and offer rigorous academics for all students. Scores on college entrance exams like the SAT and ACT open doors for our students for scholarship opportunities and acceptance into prestigious universities. We want our students to have every opportunity possible when they leave high school.”
Students in Georgia’s public schools outperformed their national counterparts, recording a mean score of 1043 compared to the national mean of 1030. Georgia has outperformed the national average on the SAT for three years in a row. Sixty-four percent of Georgia’s public school graduates in the Class of 2020 took the SAT during high school.
The SAT is a globally recognized college admissions test designed to assess academic readiness for college through student reasoning based on knowledge and skills.
