Current Projects

There are several major capital projects in the works now or slated for the near future.

Alexander High School (AHS) Performing Arts Auditorium

Alexander High School will soon have a state-of-the-art performing arts center, featuring seating for 600, an orchestra pit, a lobby large enough for intimate performances and gatherings, and gallery space to showcase student artwork.

The new performing arts center will include workshop space for building sets, storage so that sets can be saved and reused, dressing rooms, a green room, laundry room, concession stand and loading dock.

In addition to musical and dramatic performances, the theater will also used for grade level meetings and academic presentations.
The project is expected to be completed by the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year.

Douglas County School System (DCSS) Multi-Purpose Arena

The Douglas County School System has broken ground on its new Legacy Arena, which is scheduled to open in December 2023. The new 151,000-square-foot arena will seat 6,000 guests and be able to host a variety of school system events as well as events by outside groups. The Legacy Arena will be located off Highway 5 at the location of the old Central Office building.

Lithia Springs High School

Work has not yet begun on a new Lithia Springs High School, but the DCSS Board of Education approved a five-year plan drafted by the Georgia Department of Education to demolish the campus and rebuild it on the same site. Architects who inspected the 47-year-old building say it has reached its life expectancy and cannot be reconfigured, repaired or renovated based on its current architectural design.
