Get ready, Dolphins! From March 2 to March 6, 2026, Factory Shoals Elementary is diving deep into the world of books as we celebrate Read Across America Week. This nationwide initiative, established by the National Education Association (NEA), is designed to spark a lifelong love of reading and celebrate a "Nation of Diverse Readers".
📖 Monday – Book Characters on the Loose!
We kick off the week with students dressing up as their favorite book characters. From classic storybook favorites to modern literary heroes, our hallways are filled with imagination and creativity. It is a wonderful way to bring stories to life while reinforcing our love for reading.
🏀 Tuesday – Team Up for Reading!
Students show their team spirit by wearing their favorite athletic gear. Just like in sports, reading requires practice, teamwork, and perseverance. Our students are ready to “score big” with books!
🎉 Wednesday – Turn Reading Inside Out!
In honor of celebrating all kinds of books, students wear their wackiest, tackiest outfits inside out. The day is filled with laughter and fun while students continue building strong literacy skills in the classroom.
💤 Thursday – PJs & Pages!
One of our coziest days of the week! Students wear school-appropriate pajamas and snuggle up with a great book. Classrooms are filled with focused readers enjoying dedicated time to dive into engaging stories.
💙 Friday – Blue for Our Crew!
We wrap up the week by wearing blue to show our school spirit and celebrate that our school is truly a family. It is the perfect way to close out a week centered around connection, community, and the joy of reading.
Throughout the week, students participate in meaningful literacy activities designed to strengthen comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency skills. Read Across America Week reminds us that reading opens doors to imagination, knowledge, and opportunity.
We are excited to celebrate together and continue growing a strong culture of literacy all year long.
