The Mason Creek Competition Cheerleading Squad claimed the school's first competitive cheerleading state championship last Saturday, winning the Intermediate Junior High division at the Victory Athletics Georgia Championship in Atlanta.

Coach Shelby Freeman said her team scored a 5/5 in pyramid and tumbling difficulty level and a 9.5/10 for school spirit, with judges noting the dance portion was "fun to watch with different levels/formation." The squad's total score was 85.30.

Freeman said her squad was led by a core group of eighth-graders who will leave a lasting legacy including Avery Bradley, Kyrie Freeman, Ginny Goodman, Penny Goodman, Abby Hodges, Kaylei Rush and Julia Sandoval.

"I am so blessed to be able to coach for Mason Creek and to build relationships with this amazing group of girls," Freeman said. "I love that I have the ability to teach them how far teamwork and dedication can get you, as we competed alongside private schools and cheer clubs to make school history, winning Mason Creek's first championship for competitive cheerleading."
