Alexander's wrestling team is gearing up for the Traditional Region Championships at Villa Rica High School on Jan. 30.

The Cougars are led this year by seniors and team captains Caiden Atkinson and Wyatt Brewer. Both wrestle year-round, committing hours during their summers to advancing their goals of becoming state champions, Alexander coach Chad Robinson said.

"I continue to push the team to 'Embrace the Grind' of the sport and continue to work hard towards their individual goals they set at the beginning of the season," he said.

Robinson added that his team goal is to see all 14 of his wrestlers advance to the sectional tournament the following weekend at Jackson High School and ultimately to the GHSA Traditional Wrestling State Championships on Feb. 11-14 at the Clayton County Convocation Center.

The separate GHSA Class 5A Team Duals were held last weekend at Legacy Arena.

Robinson spotlighted the following wrestlers as favorites for making runs in the region, sectional and state competitions:

  • Jayvyn Headen, junior, 2025 Region Runner-Up and State Qualifier (113)

  • Caiden Atkinson, senior, 2025 Region Champion and State Qualifier (126)

  • Wyatt Brewer, senior (138)

  • Neiko Kamara, sophomore (157)

  • Brody Jones, junior (175)

  • RJ Black, junior (215)
