The Douglas County School System recently celebrated students, staff and community One of the 10 Days of Greatness graphics showcasing the percentage of DCSS teachers with advanced degrees.excellence through its 10 Days of Greatness initiative. The collaborative effort was designed to build momentum and set a positive tone for the new academic year. 

Paired with the inspiring theme from this year’s employee convocation, Greatness Grows Here, “the initiative was a perfect fit,” said Chelsie Goodman, Assistant Superintendent of School Improvement and Building Operations.  

“Superintendent Dr. North’s message at the convocation to our schools and community about the greatness growing within our buildings brought to life the bold moves this district makes every day,” she remarked. “I am so proud of our schools for taking the time to recognize the hard work and dedication they put in to make Douglas County an even better place to work, play, live, and GROW.”

Throughout the week, each school highlighted academic and teaching excellence, student achievement, athletic milestones, and much more — showcasing the many ways greatness is growing in the district.

When laying the foundation of student success to new teachers, Dr. North explained the goal of Team Douglas: “Every employee shares responsibility for nurturing student success. Together, we are growing the next generation of leaders.”

Dr. North noted that everyone is a partner in the success of students. He emphasized that through partnerships with families, students, businesses, and the community, DCSS can build an environment where every student can thrive and succeed.

Mount Carmel Principal Dr. Tenia Boone remarked that celebrating 10 Days of Greatness has been rejuvenating for all school leaders. 

“The initiative came at just the right moment and gave us the spark we needed to start the year strong," she said. "This challenge not only highlighted the amazing things happening in our school but also showcased the excellence across all of Douglas County. It was powerful to see bold, student-centered posts that reflected one plan, one purpose, and true Douglas County pride.” 

She went on to say, “the initiative was a reminder of the high standards we strive to mirror for our students and community, while helping us launch the year with unity, purpose, and momentum.”
