LSHS students in the EMT Class

Students at Lithia Springs High recently participated in a hands-on infant CPR training session, LSHS students in the EMT Classgaining essential life-saving skills using realistic tools and expert guidance.

During the session, Jennifer Handy’s EMT class practiced delivering breaths to infant mannequins using a bag-valve mask—an important technique used in emergency medical care. Lieutenant Crider of the Douglas County Fire Department assisted with the training, offering expert instruction and support as students learned the proper infant CPR techniques.

According to Handy, the interactive experience was designed to give students valuable exposure to real-world emergency procedures, preparing them for future roles in emergency medical services.

“The EMT program at Lithia Springs offers Douglas County students a truly unique opportunity to explore, experience and elevate their learning in the field of emergency medicine,” Handy said. “Our students are challenged not only to master critical knowledge but also to apply it in real-world situations through our partnership with the Douglas County Fire Department—often joining crews on actual emergency calls. The excitement and engagement this program inspires are tremendous, as students see their skills come to life.”

Through this program, students can also take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam and earn national EMT certification at no personal cost.

Handy expressed her gratitude for working alongside the students and the Douglas County Fire Department, noting that the collaboration ensures students have access to the best experiences and pathways to success.

“Great job to all the students—and a special thank you to Lieutenant Crider for sharing his time and expertise,” she said.
