PIE and CORE Make Plans for Strengthening School and Community Partnerships
Posted on 08/31/2020

Volunteers comprising the boards for PIE and Douglas CORE met August 28 for a planning retreat led by Bob Kucher, vice president for partnerships and programs at PENCIL. PENCIL is an acronym for Public Education Needs Community Involvement & Leadership. The non-profit organization serves Metro Nashville, TN Public Schools by coordinating volunteerism and financial and in-kind contributions from 751 partnerships. Last year, PENCIL partners volunteered 37,224 hours in Nashville schools and distributed $1.8M in supplies. Mr. Kucher shared helpful information and strategies for strengthening our own school and community partnerships.

Douglas CORE (Community Organizing Resources for Excellence) is a community collaborative representing non-profits, civic organizations, health and human services, education, law enforcement, churches, families and youth. This non-profit strives to assess and evaluate present needs and resources for children and families while searching for additional resources to fill in gaps in services and discourage duplication of services.

PIE and CORE are both committed to making our schools the best they can be, and they plan to work together toward shared goals.
