In a whirlwind hometown tour on Tuesday, American Idol finalist Megan Danielle surprised hundreds of Winston Elementary students with an afternoon stop on their campus. Danielle was welcomed to her former school by Principal Heather George and hundreds of students and staff who were thrilled with the opportunity to cheer her on to the final round of the competition. The 20-year-old vocalist shared a few words with the crowd and expressed her appreciation for their support before she was whisked away to meet her busy schedule.

“I applaud Megan Danielle for how she has represented our school, the community, and Douglas County overall,” said Principal George. “She reminded our Wildcats that dreams really can come true when you set goals for yourself and don't allow negativity or failure to hold you back. The Wildcats can't wait to cheer and vote for Megan on Sunday's Season Finale of American Idol.”

Douglasville’s newest celebrity, a 2020 graduate of Douglas County High School, rounded out her day with a parade through downtown and a pep rally in O’Neal Plaza prior to her evening performance. More than 1,000 fans braved the threatening weather to attend the show at DCHS stadium. Despite the afternoon thunderstorm, the rain held off for all events to take place as scheduled.

An American Idol camera crew accompanied Danielle throughout the day. Footage from these events will be featured in a ‘Hometown’ video story to be aired during the show’s ABC finale on Sunday, May 21.
