After over a year with no field trips, students and teachers are happy to travel once again and learn beyond the walls of the classroom! With safety precautions in place, several student groups have experienced fun and unique learning opportunities in the Atlanta area.
Georgia Aquarium STEM Camp brings fun, weird science for YMS Students
Sixteen Yeager Middle School (YMS) girls and one teacher were selected to attend a fully-funded STEM camp at the Georgia Aquarium. The camp, which was sponsored by the Aquarium and Fun Weird Science, allowed the 7th graders to immerse themselves in science for four days.
In addition to lessons on chemistry, entrepreneurship, robotics, coding and drone flying, the students were treated to behind-the-scenes tours of the whale shark and beluga whale habitats. They also saw a sea lion
and dolphin presentation; met with Cecilia, the ball python; and took other exclusive tours of the Aquarium.
“The energy and excitement of the girls as they engaged in each activity and asked questions about the Aquarium, the animals, and the careers related to both were truly inspirational,” said YMS science teacher and camp attendee Ms. Jennifer Moon. “Ronnie Thomas of Fun Weird Science and the Georgia Aquarium went all out to inspire our YMS girls to be all they can be today and in the future.”

PLC students visit Museum of History and Holocaust Education
Students in the Performance Learning Center (PLC) visited the Museum of History and Holocaust Education at Kennesaw State University. The field trip enhanced their learning of the 10th grade literature standards of reading and writing about experiences during the Holocaust.
Students gained a greater understanding of the historical event and were able to compare and contrast the past and present and give their views on how they felt about these issues. "They were very engaged in the activities and appreciated learning about the political, human and social consequences and sacrifices made by many during this time in history," said PLC Teacher Temika McFarland.
SMS students visit UWG, World of Coke
A group of Stewart Middle School students toured the University of West Georgia recently. They learned what it takes for college acceptance and how to succeed at the next level.
Eighth graders at Stewart traveled to the World of Coke, where they learned how the Coca-Cola Company became a vibrant force in Georgia and around the world.
They enjoyed lunch at the CNN Center, headquarters of one of the world's leading news organizations.
