R-E-G-U-R-G-I-T-A-T-E! And in that instant, Gabrielle Coner, eighth grader at Turner Middle School, was declared the winner of Douglas County's District Spelling Bee on January 24.

This year, 29 schools participated in the event, and the competition was steep with 9 rounds of both spelling and vocabulary.

"I am incredibly proud of our spelling bee participants and our winner, Gabriele Coner," said DCSS Superintendent Trent North. "Winning a spelling bee is a remarkable academic achievement. It requires hard work, perseverance, and a deep commitment to learning. We wish her the best as she represents our district at the next level of competition."

Next in line to the winner was Yahminisakti Chandrasekaran, another eighth grader at Fairplay Middle School. In order to participate at the district level, students first had to prove themselves victorious at their respective schools. With both elementary and middle representatives, it was even more exciting that Douglas County's 3rd place runner-up was none other than Earlene Igbeare, a 5th grader at Arbor Station Elementary.

Douglas County is excited to participate in the regional spelling bee on February 25th and congratulates all of our participants!
