Information Regarding Flu and Strep Throat back button

Two illnesses that parents should be particularly aware of at this time of year are:

Strep Throat (Bacterial):  Strep throat is a bacterial infection that can easily spread to other people. It is usually a mild infection, but serious complications can occur. There is a quick test doctors can use to see if someone has strep throat. If the test is positive, the doctor can prescribe antibiotics so that the child feels better sooner and helps protect others from getting sick.

Flu (Viral): Flu, an infection of the nose, throat and lungs, is caused by influenza viruses. Illness can vary from mild to severe. Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, chills, fatigue and other issues. Children of any age with severe flu symptoms should go to the doctor.
