Four of Douglas County’s High Schools Approved for International Skills Diploma Seal back button

Douglas County High School and Lithia Springs High School were approved to issue the International Skills Diploma Seal beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, which was the first year the distinction was offered by the Georgia Department of Education. Alexander High School and Chapel Hill High School were recently approved to issue the seal for the 2016-2017 school year. In 2016, 51 students at Douglas County High School and six students at Lithia Springs High School earned the distinction.

The International Skills Diploma Seal, a collaborative effort by the Governor’s Office, Legislature, Department of Education, businesses and universities, provides students an opportunity to acquire the interdisciplinary skills they need to be globally competent and competitive. The International Skills Diploma Seal is awarded to students who complete an international education curriculum with a minimum of:

·         three credits in the same world language and/or ESOL

·         four credits in courses with an international focus

·         four extracurricular activities and experiences with global focus

·         20 hours of community service involving global/cross-cultural service

·         capstone presentation on knowledge gained in the courses and activities listed above

The seal is a signal to employers and higher education institutions that a student is prepared to participate in the global economy. These four high schools are currently working with students to prepare them to earn the seal. Over 100 students in Douglas County School System have completed the Intent to Earn the Seal in 2017.
