November 15 was quite different for Douglas County School System students. Schools across the county participated in Principal 4 A Day and each school had a new “principal” in their school. This program is a partnership between the Douglas County Chamber and Douglas County School System.

“Principal 4 a Day” is a program adopted by Chamber President & CEO, Kali Boatright and DC School Superintendent, Dr. Gordon Pritz in 2011. This program allowed members of the business community to visit one of the 33 schools to shadow the principal for a half day. Guest principals were exposed to the many exciting programs offered in the schools as well as gaining first-hand insight into the challenges that schools face on a daily basis.

Participants experienced how hands on and involved each principal is in their school. Chad Benton from Gold’s Gym commented, “This is great opportunity that every business in the community should take advantage of. Mrs Manley at Holly Springs Elementary and her staff could not have been better. I loved the positive interactions she has with the students and her staff. It was exactly the culture that we try to bring to Gold's Gym. This is definitely a program I will participate in again.”

Myesha Good from Junior League of Douglas County visited Chestnut Log Middle School and praised Principal Nicole Hayes by saying, “She is a true leader that is passionate about her students and staff. The students love her and many of them light up when they see her in the hallways. It was truly confirmed to me that educators have a big role, and do a lot to ensure that our children are truly prepared for the future.”

While this program is for members of the business community, other members of the Douglas County community will have the opportunity to participate in the second portion of this program, “Teacher 4 a Day” on March 28, 2017.
