Casey Bethel, 2017 Georgia Teacher of the Year from Douglas County, was surprised with a brand new Chrysler 200 at the school system’s administrative meeting on Wednesday, July 20. The car was donated by Thornton Road Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram for Mr. Bethel to drive as he travels the state this year speaking to educators and community and state leaders.

Danny Pompa, General Manager of the dealership, said, “It is our privilege to donate this car for Casey to use. It is our way of showing support for great teachers in our community. Casey will serve as an inspiration for thousands of educators across the state, and we are happy we can help him reach his audience. When we heard Casey’s story, we knew we had to make this donation.”

Bethel, a science teacher at New Manchester High School in Douglas County, was named 2017 Georgia Teacher of the Year in a surprise announcement May 19 in his classroom at New Manchester.

Mr. Bethel is a passionate educator, accomplished scientist and a mentor to students of all ages. He was named Douglas County’s 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year on October 1, 2015, and went on to represent the system in the Georgia Teacher of the Year competition.
