A beautiful fall day on Saturday, October 27 was the setting for the first Foxhall Family Festival benefiting the Douglas County School System. Over 11,000 people from the community took advantage of the opportunity to spend family time together at the outdoor event at Foxhall Resort and Sporting Club on Capps Ferry Road between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

“We are very proud of our partnership with Foxhall and the opportunity it provides for students and families to enjoy time together outdoors,” said Dr. Gordon Pritz, Superintendent of the Douglas County School System. “This is the largest fundraiser to date in the district. In addition to the tremendous turnout for the event we had close to 1,000 volunteers on hand to help make the event run smoothly. This event would not have happened without the support of the entire Foxhall staff as well as many employees of the Douglas County School System. I commend all volunteers for their work planning and implementing the festival.

“For many of our attendees it was the first time to visit Foxhall and experience the beauty of its manicured fields and paddocks. Most of our schools had festival booths and provided a variety of free activities for students. Over 200 students and adults ran in the Road Runner Race at the event. Other activities at the festival included pony rides, archery, fishing, inflatables, hayrides, music, a petting zoo, pumpkin painting, food vendors, craft vendors, and much more. Some attendees packed a picnic while others purchased food from vendors including two of Atlanta's most popular food trucks."

“The annual Douglas County School System Foxhall Family Festival is planned to become the premier festival of its kind in the southeast,” said Harrison Merrill, Sr. of Foxhall. “We expect this festival to continue to grow in popularity and become the biggest event in Douglas County as well as the largest fundraiser for the Douglas County School System. I have a passion for encouraging young people to spend more time outdoors and less time in front of an electronic television or computer screen. The Foxhall Family Festival will give generations of area residents an opportunity to come outside and enjoy all that nature has to offer.”
