Program Information

The Douglas County School's Special Needs Preschool Program is an early intervention program serving children ages 3 to 5 who reside in Douglas County.  It is a division of the Douglas County Schools Program for Exceptional Children.  To be eligible for the Special Needs Preschool Program, a child must exhibit a significant delay in one or more of the following areas:  Cognition, Speech/Language, Motor Skills, Social Skills, Adaptive Skills, Vision Impairment, or Hearing

The philosophy of the Douglas County Special Needs Preschool Program is to provide instruction for each child based on his/her developmental needs.  We provide functional, language-building activities geared toward the development of appropriate social, self-care, motor, cognitive and communication skills.  Students are assessed both formally and informally on a regular basis.  Parental involvement is considered integral to meeting each child's overall needs.  Our program uses several instructional methodologies as well as a variety of materials adapted to meet the needs of each child.  We are committed to providing children and parents with a positive learning experience in a safe, nurturing and informative environment.
