Superintendent Dr. Pritz's Contract Extended

Superintendent Dr. Gordon Pritz’s Douglas County School System Contract Extended

“Members of the Douglas County Board of Education are pleased to announce that they have extended Superintendent Dr. Gordon Pritz’s contract for an additional year, through June 1, 2017,” said D. T. Jackson, Board of Education Chairman. “His most recent contract was set to expire at the end of this school year.

“Dr. Pritz has provided positive guidance and direction for the Douglas County School System through some of the most financially difficult and academically challenging times our county has ever faced. He is student centered, teacher focused and a builder of community relations. We firmly believe he is the right person to continue to lead us forward. As we undertake some extremely important initiatives, upcoming AdvancedED (SACS) accreditation approval, implementation of the Strategic Waiver Flexibility approval (IE2) program and prepare for the 2017 Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST), it is critically important that we have a seasoned and well respected superintendent in place. Dr. Pritz provides us just that.”

Dr. Pritz took the leadership helm of the school district in May, 2010 following the retirement of previous superintendent Don Remillard. Dr. Pritz’s background includes teaching in all levels of public school: elementary, middle and high school as well as school and district level administration. During his career he has demonstrated consistent success in leading and motivating large and small organizations/teams toward common goals. Dr. Pritz possesses and demonstrates outstanding integrity and excellent communication, leadership and “people” skills. He has a wide variety of experiences and successes in curriculum and instructional programs, strategic planning, school improvement, budget and resource management and operations.

During Dr. Pritz’s five-year tenure, the district’s millage rates have been lowered every year on either bonds issued to build schools or the maintenance and operation millage rate. Student achievement improvements have also been realized in numerous areas of accountability. School choice options, through three new high school magnet programs, have been afforded students. Twenty-first century technology has been provided in every classroom in the district.

“After 38 years in public education I am fortunate to be able to continue to serve students and fellow educators,” said Dr. Pritz. “Although retirement was something I had seriously considered at the end of this year, I am excited to provide service to our district over these next two very critical years.”

Previous administrative experience for Dr. Pritz includes: Associate Superintendent/Operational Support, Cobb County School District, 2006-2010; Assistant Superintendent/Operations and Policy Development, Marietta City Schools, 2005-2006; Principal, Marietta High School, 1997-2005; and Assistant Principal/Athletic Director, East Paulding High School, 1995-1997.

His teaching experience is as follows: 1985-1995: McEachern High School, Powder Springs, History, Grades 10-12; 1983-1985: Wheeler High School, Marietta, Science, Government, History, Grades 9-12; 1980-1983: Powers Ferry Elementary School, Marietta, Fourth/Fifth Grade; 1979-1980: Argyle Elementary School, Smyrna, Fifth Grade; and 1977-1979: Meadowlawn Elementary School, Monticello, IN, Sixth Grade.
