"Leadership Unplugged" Summer High School Program

CNN is offering a weeklong media literacy development program for high school sophomores and juniors, "Leadership Unplugged" in which participants are exposed to various areas of the media business through interactive workshops, tours, roundtable sessions, team-building exercises, and an etiquette dinner. Participants learn the practice of “pitching” a story.

What: A weeklong media literacy focused leadership development program in which participants are exposed to various areas of the media business through interactive workshops, tours, roundtable sessions, team-building exercises, and an etiquette dinner.  Participants learn the practice of “pitching” a story.
 
Who: Current sophomores and juniors in Georgia high schools; 75 students accepted.
 
When: June 22 – 27, 2014
 
Where: Georgia Institute of Technology – Students reside for a week in college dorms, supervised by 21CL summer staff.
 
How: Submit an online application, short-answer essay questions, and recommendation from current teacher, counselor or youth leader.  Interviews for the program will be held in mid February- mid March.  Applications open on December 13th and close on February 28th at 5p.m.
 
Cost: All costs for room, board, and program materials are covered by Turner Broadcasting System.
 
Program Highlights:
  • Attend daily interactive workshops developed and led by professionals from CNN.
  • Network with CNN and TBS, Inc. executives in a variety of media related careers.
  • Discuss and analyze world issues with CNN journalists.
  • Create a news-related project with feedback from the pros.
