Rumors Sparked Nationwide by Connecticut Tragedy and Mayan Calendar

Message from Douglas County Superintendent Dr. Gordon Pritz:

Unfortunately there appear to be a number of rumors and stories being irresponsibly spread across our county, state and country through social media and other means. These are rumors about violence taking place in schools, tomorrow, Friday January 21st. These rumors may be due in part to the tragedy that occurred in Newtown, Connecticut last week. They also may be due to the prediction on the Mayan calendar of the end of the world. This is all so very unfortunate and disruptive.

We assure you we have investigated and followed up on every rumor we have heard. We have worked closely with law enforcement in these efforts. We have found NO truth to any of these rumors. We anticipate a safe and productive day of school tomorrow as we close out this first semester. We appreciate everyone's efforts to help us with that goal. Our schools remain a safe place of learning and growth. Should you have any concerns or questions, please contact the school or district office.
