2017-2018 Character Traits

Character education has become an important part of the curriculum in the Douglas County Schools over the last several years. Schools are striving to build a common set of values among students. The state has adopted a set of character concepts that schools work with the family and community to teach.

Each week a different concept like kindness, generosity, cleanliness, or school spirit is stressed. The concepts are featured on our website and through the local media. Our schools are not only attempting to teach about the concepts but are also trying to encourage students to apply the concepts.

Douglas County Schools have been involved in many activities in a system-wide effort to help our country and our community. Many schools get involved with projects such as food and toy drives during the holidays to help meet the needs of families in their communities. Several high schools have sponsored Red Cross blood drives.

By participating in events and projects such as those mentioned above, the students and parents in Douglas County have been able to express their care and concern. Character Education can improve the atmosphere of schools by teaching students to live by the positive values of our society. It is a part of Douglas County School curriculum that can help our students, families, schools, and community to succeed.
