The Douglas County School System received a $2.8 million Smaller Learning Communities (SLC) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Funding will be used to implement BRIDGES, Building Rigor In Douglas to Graduate Every Student, at each high school over the next three years with potential for two additional years. BRIDGES will enhance instruction to improve student achievement, engage and prepare students for post-secondary success, and ultimately increase the district's graduation rate.
Key elements of BRIDGES will include expansion of the Freshman Academies, implementation of Career Pathways in grades 10-12, additional support for instructional staff, tutoring after school and on Saturdays, and a parent involvement component. Each school will have an SLC College and Career Coach to implement BRIDGES.
